Email: associazione@uominicasalinghi.it The Housemen association To leave behind the stereotype of a warrior-man overwhelmed by the weight of responsibility and rationality regaining instead the care of ourselves through social relationships and householding is the aim of our association. Our model is that of a skilful houseman who devotes himself to domestic activities and keeps cultivating his own interests. What we are looking for is to reconstruct the ancient matrilinear society destroyed by the establishment of patriarchism; power given to men has always had as a consequence wars, pollution, devastations. On the contrary matrilinear societies were based on high level culture and refinement; they didn’t care about arms, fortifications and domination of one sex over the other. The philosopher Antonio D’Andrea set up the housemen movement 15 years ago; since then he has been carrying out it’s guidelines. The idea of an association able to implement practically this way of thinking, gathering men who have chosen to perform householding not as a mere backing of a typically female work but in a conscious and responsible way it’s new and on the way of a full development. The president of the association is Fiorenzo Bresciani from Pietrasanta (Lucca); he began collecting adhesions to the newborn association during the first national meeting.At present members are more than one thousands and their number will keep growing. We estimate that in Italy sympathizers are more than 40.000. The association plans to promote meetings, holidays, campings in accordance with it’s phylosophy based on pacifism and environmentalism. In fact the housemen association’s products are all ecological: magazines, soap, t-shirts, aprons, postcards etc. The association leading idea is to favour women by overcoming the individualism and the antagonism typical of a patriarchal society. Men should do their best to favour the care of people and the relationship between them considering that not a mission and doing it without spirit of militancy. The Members of this association do not consider householding as a humiliating job and most of all they don’t think it is incompatible with the idea of virility. They are men who don’t feel ashame to fight for the juridical recognition of what they consider a real profession; they don’t want to compete with housewives for success, they want instead to obtain pension contributions. This kind of men is tender and serene always prompt to an interested dialogue with the opposite sex.
